I have been into music for so long and I always was very interested in the history of rap. After doing some research I found out that one of the first rappers was DJ Kool Herc. Herc was a Jamaican immigrant who created a street organization called Universal Zulu Nation as a means to draw teenagers out of gang life, drugs, and violence. I found it kind of ironic that rap
kinda started to draw teens away from gangs, drugs, and violence because so many artist today came up by rapping about these such things. It’s interesting to see how rap has changed over the years. I think the start of “gangster rap” by the rap group N.W.A influenced so many rappers today because it started a new genre inside the hip hop genre.
